Talented young Singapore erhu musicians Wong Qin Kai and Shunta Goh join hands to present their interpretations of signature erhu works by renowned composer Liu Wenjin, including The Sanmen Gorge Capriccio, Charms of Autumn and The Great Wall Capriccio.
Written between 1959 to as recent as 2006, these masterful erhu works redefined the possibilities of the erhu and expanded the instrumental repertoire following the creation of 10 solo erhu works by the late Chinese music virtuoso Liu Tianhua. With a deep understanding of both Chinese traditional music and Western composition techniques, Liu Wenjin composed his erhu works drawing inspirations from Chinese musical aesthetics and social developments during his time. Standing the test of time, Liu’s erhu music is widely practised and performed by erhu musicians around the world.
