The concert features jazzy renditions of well-loved Chinese songs. Presenting the Jazz Association Singapore Orchestra (JASSO), the concert will be conducted by both Music Director, Jeremy Monteiro, and Associate Music Director, Weixiang Tan. The repertoire will consist of age-old Chinese evergreen songs, more contemporary songs that are considered part of the evergreen repertoire such as music from the Xinyao movement, and a couple of recent Chinese hits, including songs popularised by well-known singers such as Teresa Teng, Tracy Huang Ying Ying, and Fong Fei Fei.
The three special guest vocalists for the concert are Singaporean singer, actress and host Joanna Dong, who was a finalist in the “Sing! China” 2017, US-based Melissa Tham, who recently released a jazz tribute album to Teresa Teng, and from China, Jasmine Chen, one of the featured singers in the Hollywood hit, “Crazy Rich Asians.”
JASSO will be playing alongside guest lead trumpet player and well-known New York-based Trumpeter Alex Sipiagin. The songs to be performed are age-old and timeless, with beautiful melodies lending themselves to sophisticated jazz arrangements and orchestrations.
